College of DuPage wins top national award for financial reporting

The College of DuPage at Glen Ellyn was awarded the Certificate of Excellence in Financial Reporting by the Government Finance Officers Association for the fiscal year ended June 30, 2020.

The Certificate of Achievement is the highest form of recognition in government accounting and financial reporting. This year marks the 27th time that COD has received recognition from the GFOA.

COD President Dr. Brian Caputo said the award demonstrates the college’s commitment to responsible and transparent financial planning.

“Considerable efforts are made to prepare a financial report that meets the criteria for this award. This recognition symbolizes the high standards we set for ourselves to accurately record and report the college’s financial activities,” he said.

“Presenting a comprehensive annual financial report that captures all the details of college information is a priority for the administration. The document provides full transparency and demonstrates college leaders’ unqualified acceptance of their fiduciary responsibilities,” said COD Vice President of Administrative Affairs Ellen Roberts. .

“We are delighted that the GFOA has recognized our commitment to best practices and sound financial management,” she said.

The Government Finance Officers Association advances excellence in government finance by providing best practices, professional development, resources and practical research to more than 21,000 members and the communities they serve. Financial reports are judged annually by an impartial panel to meet the program’s high standards, including demonstrating a constructive and clearly communicated spirit of full disclosure.

College of DuPage is institutionally accredited by the Higher Learning Commission. Serving approximately 21,000 students each term, the College of DuPage is the largest public community college in the state of Illinois. The college awards seven associate degrees and offers more than 170 vocational and technical certificates in more than 50 fields of study.
