Commissioners declare Hunger Action Week | News, Sports, Jobs
MIFFLINTOWN – Juniata County Commissioners on Tuesday honored a decades-old tradition with a proclamation.
Commissioners proclaimed the week of October 4-10 as “Week of action against hunger” to coincide with Juniata County’s 49th annual CROP Hunger Walk.
Rev. Graham Fowler, treasurer of the Juniata County Ministry, said that over the past 48 years, the CROP Hunger Walk has raised more than $ 500,000, of which 75% has gone to world service l ‘Church.
“Thank you to everyone for encouraging the county not only to support the harvest, but also to fight against hunger in our county” he said.
According to the CROP Hunger Walk website, 25% of funds raised will support the Juniata County Food Pantry and Juniata Meals on Wheels.
The Juniata County CROP Hunger Walk will take place on October 10 at Walker Township Park in Mifflintown. Registration begins at 1:30 p.m. and the walk begins at 2:00 p.m. Participants are encouraged to bring non-perishable food donations for the Juniata County pantry.
Registration for the Juniata County CROP Hunger Walk is still open. Individuals and teams can register online at https://events.crophungerwalk.org/2021/event/mifflintownpa. According to the website, each person who raises $ 125 or more by the date of the walk will receive a free CROP Walk t-shirt.
In addition, during the meeting, the commissioners approved the contract for the medical assistance transport program between Juniata County and the Call-A-Ride service. The approved amount is $ 133,955 for the contract period July 1, 2021 to June 30, 2022. MATP Director Cindy Sunderland explained that CARS is a ride-sharing service for Mifflin and Juniata County. Sunderland said displacement rates were affected by the COVID-19 pandemic. Sunderland said the 2019-20 travel rate for Juniata County at the end of the fourth quarter was over $ 3,000, while last year the rate was just over $ 1,500.
The Commissioners also took the following actions during the meeting:
¯Approved the cost allocation plan certificate for fiscal year 2020 as submitted by Maximus.
Acknowledged the resignations of Nicholas B. Price as probation officer effective September 20, 2021, and Leah E. Strawser as deputy director of tax management effective end of business on October 15, 2021.
Approved the Purchase of Service Agreement between Juniata County on behalf of Children and Youth Services and Stephen S. Snook, Esquire, for the services of an agency lawyer at an hourly rate of 87 , $ 55. The term of the agreement is from September 22, 2021 to December 31, 2021.
Approved the Purchase of Service Agreement between Juniata County Child and Youth Services, Juniata County Probation Department and Community Specialists Corporation, d / b / a The Academy. The agreement will be in effect from July 1, 2021 to June 30, 2022.
¯ Approved payment of checks nos. 62468 to 62506 in the amount of $ 73,333.23.
¯ Filed the approval of the 2021 Liquid Fuels Fund allocations and distribution for a later date.
