Delta directors accept Pourzanjani’s resignation

The Delta College Board of Trustees recently approved a request from Superintendent / President Dr Omid Pourzanjani for him to be placed on leave for the remainder of his contract, which ends in June 2022.

The Board also accepted his resignation with effect from June 30, 2022. Both decisions were taken unanimously.

Assistant Superintendent / Vice-President of Education, Dr. Lisa Aguilera Lawrenson, will assume the duties of Acting Superintendent / President immediately.

“The district thanks Dr Pourzanjani for his service to Delta College and its students, and wishes him good luck in his future endeavors,” said board chair Dr Charles Jennings, adding that the board determined that the decision was in the best interests of both. of the College and of Dr Pourzanjani.

“It is a very difficult decision to make, but I believe it is the right decision,” said Dr Pourzanjani.

“Being the Superintendent / President of Delta College has been an incredible privilege for me,” he continued. “The resilience of our employees in the face of the COVID-19 pandemic, in particular, has been absolutely inspiring. From the sudden shift to online learning to the slow and difficult exit from the pandemic, our faculty and staff have shown courage and unwavering dedication to serving our students. They are grateful, and so am I.

As this is a personnel matter, more details are not available.

A first-generation immigrant and student, Dr. Pourzanjani has served students for over 37 years at various institutions of higher education in California, as a faculty member and administrator. He was hired as the 11th Superintendent / President of Delta in August 2019.

Dr. Lisa Aguilera Lawrenson has 28 years of experience as a community college professor, administrator, and social justice educator / trainer in California and Washington. She has expertise in the design of culturally appropriate curricula, strategic social justice planning and mentoring. His thesis focused on the experiences of Hispanic students in developmental English in community colleges.

She was a Full English Professor at South Puget Sound Community College and an Executive Administrator at American River College and Cosumnes River College before joining Delta College in 2020. She led foundational skills / curriculum initiatives studies, equity, international education, strategic planning, college overhaul and governance.
