Fees and Charges for 2022 – City of Mississauga

Today, as part of the City’s annual budget process, the Budget Committee was introduced and debated on new and increased user fees and user fees for City services and programs such as swimming lessons and permits for people or businesses using these services. Revenues collected through user fees and charges help offset the costs of providing City services and programs in the areas of fire and emergency services; Roads; Transit (MiWay); Parks, forestry and environment; Libraries; Recreation; Land use planning services; Culture; Regulatory services; Legislative and support services such as 311.

“As the City continues its efforts to recover from a pandemic, staff have carefully considered the fees and charges based on the projected uses and needs of the community and people using the services for 2022. Revenues collected through fees and charges are used to ease the pressures on the 2022. property tax rate, ”said Shari Lichterman, general services commissioner and chief financial officer. “We encourage residents and business owners to get involved in our budget process as we work with Council to achieve a budget that balances service delivery with sound financial management. “

All of the proposed changes are outlined in the Budget Committee’s report of October 6, 2021 and will result in additional budgeted revenue in 2022 of approximately $ 1 million.

“These changes include plans for the Mississauga Library to eliminate overdue fines, which will promote equitable access to library services and also support community recovery from the pandemic. This matches many other library systems in North America, including Brampton, Hamilton, Toronto and Vaughan, ”Lichterman added.

The fees and charges discussed today will be on the agenda of the next Council for final approval.

All meetings of the Budget Committee and Council are open to the public. The next Budget Committee meeting is scheduled for Monday, November 22, 2021 at 9:30 am The full meeting schedule is available online at Council and Committee Calendar.
