New Delhi:

The Sharad Pawar-led NCP advised Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman on Saturday to focus on the direction of the economy instead of focusing on Baramati, amid reports she would visit the family stronghold again Pawar.

The BJP has aggressively boosted its presence in the Western Maharashtra constituency represented in Lok Sabha by the daughter of NCP founder Sharad Pawar, Supriya Sule, who has been among vocal critics of the Narendra Modi government.

“Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman is so focused on ‘B for Baramati’ that she forgot ‘E for Economy’. “, NCP spokesman Clyde Crasto said.

He said Ms Sitharaman has been tasked with ensuring that the BJP defeats Ms Sule of Baramati in the upcoming Lok Sabha elections.

“In trying to do this, Sitharaman seems to have forgotten that she is also the finance minister of the Union and that her duty is to focus on our economy as well,” said Clyde Crasto.

Ms Sitharaman had visited Baramati for three days in September and held meetings with BJP workers as part of efforts to prepare the party for the upcoming elections.

Union Minister Prahlad Singh Patel was on a two-day tour in Baramati to boost BJP organization in the region.

“During her tenure, she failed to take care of our economy and made frivolous unsubstantiated statements to cover up the same. This prompted her party leader Nitin Gadkari to praise our former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh for his handling of the Indian economy,” Clyde Crasto said.

The NCP spokesperson noted that Nitin Gadkari had also said that India needed a liberal economic policy with the intention of delivering its benefits to the poor.

“It’s time for Sitharaman to take her job seriously because focusing too much on other issues will make her face ‘L for Loss’ in both ‘Baramati’ and ‘Economics,'” Mr Crasto said. .
